4.7 from 9 reviews

A quick and easy recipe for perfectly cooked air fryer hot dogs with crispy edges and juicy interiors, served in toasted buns and ready to be topped with your favorite condiments.

Ingredients

Scale

Hot Dogs

  • 15 ounces bun-size or length franks (about 425 grams, Ball Park brand used)

Buns

  • 12 ounces 8-pack hot dog buns (about 340 grams, local grocery store brand used)

Extras

  • 1 tablespoon salted butter, melted (optional, for brushing buns)
  • Condiments of your choice (mustard, ketchup, relish, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Air Fryer: Set your air fryer to 400°F and allow it to preheat. Note that some air fryer models may not require a preheat cycle.
  2. Prepare the Hot Dogs: While the air fryer heats, make a few shallow diagonal cuts on each hot dog, or create a diamond pattern. These cuts help the hot dogs cook evenly and develop a slightly crispy texture without cutting too deeply.
  3. Cook the Hot Dogs: Arrange the hot dogs evenly spaced in the air fryer basket. Cook them at 400°F for 4 to 5 minutes, checking at the 4-minute mark to prevent overcooking.
  4. Toast the Buns: After the hot dogs are cooked, place them in the buns. Brush the edges of the buns with melted butter to enhance browning and flavor. Depending on your air fryer size, you might need to do this in batches.
  5. Final Toast: Place the assembled hot dogs with buns back into the air fryer. Toast at 400°F for 2 to 3 minutes or until the bun edges turn a light golden brown. For softer buns, you can skip this step.
  6. Serve: Remove the hot dogs from the air fryer and add your favorite condiments before serving.

Notes

  • You can create different cut patterns on the hot dogs for visual appeal and texture variety.
  • If your air fryer is small, cook hot dogs and toast buns in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  • Skip buttering the buns if you prefer them soft instead of toasted and crispy.
  • Keep an eye on the hot dogs while cooking to prevent them from drying out or bursting from overcooking.
