Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts (Approximately 1.5 lbs)

Sauce

  • 1 packet ranch dressing mix (1 oz)
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix (1 oz)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup (10.5 oz can)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Seasoning & Garnish

  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare chicken: Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot, spreading them out evenly at the bottom.
  2. Mix sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the ranch dressing mix, brown gravy mix, chicken broth, and cream of chicken soup. Whisk the ingredients thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  3. Combine chicken and sauce: Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the chicken breasts in the crockpot, making sure each piece is coated evenly with the sauce.
  4. Cook low and slow: Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 6 hours, or until the chicken is cooked through, tender, and easily shredable.
  5. Shred chicken: Once cooked, remove the chicken pieces and shred them using two forks right in the gravy to absorb the flavors.
  6. Add sour cream and season: Stir the shredded chicken back into the gravy, then mix in the sour cream thoroughly. Taste and season with salt and pepper as desired.
  7. Serve and garnish: Serve the creamy chicken and gravy mixture over rice or mashed potatoes for a hearty meal. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for color and freshness.
  8. Optional flavor enhancer: For added depth of flavor, consider adding chopped onions or garlic at the beginning with the chicken in the crockpot.
  9. Storage tip: This dish freezes well in airtight containers, making it convenient for future meals and easy reheating.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken thighs if preferred; they remain juicy and flavorful.
  • Adding vegetables such as mushrooms or carrots can bulk up the dish.
  • Adjust sour cream quantity to your preference for creaminess.
  • To reduce sodium, use low-sodium broth and gravy mix.
  • This recipe pairs wonderfully with steamed green vegetables for a balanced meal.
