4.7 from 147 reviews

This Easy Dipping Chocolate recipe creates a smooth, rich, and versatile chocolate dip perfect for fruits, cookies, and other treats. Made with semi-sweet chocolate, sweetened condensed milk, and a hint of vanilla, this indulgent dip is simple to prepare on the stovetop and can be adjusted in consistency to serve warm or chilled.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Base

  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate
  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup (or maple syrup)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Additional Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup milk (or more, as needed)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Melt the Chocolate: Break the semi-sweet chocolate into pieces and place them into the bottom of a small saucepan. Place the pan over low heat and stir constantly to melt the chocolate gently, ensuring the burner is set to the lowest possible setting to avoid scorching. Once the chocolate is almost fully melted, turn off the heat and continue stirring until the mixture is completely smooth. Alternatively, use a double boiler for safer melting.
  2. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk, Corn Syrup, and Salt: Stir in the sweetened condensed milk, corn syrup (or maple syrup), and salt until the mixture becomes completely smooth and shiny, blending the ingredients thoroughly for a velvety texture.
  3. Adjust Consistency with Milk: Slowly add milk, a little at a time, stirring continuously to thin the chocolate to your desired consistency. Keep in mind that the dip will thicken as it cools, so add more milk if you prefer a thinner, warm serving, or less if serving chilled. If using cold milk or if the mixture thickens too much, warm it again gently on low heat while stirring.
  4. Finish with Vanilla and Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the dipping chocolate into a serving bowl and enjoy it with dippables such as strawberries, cookies, bananas, brownies, or rice krispie treats.

Notes

  • Use a double boiler to melt chocolate if worried about burning it.
  • Add milk gradually to reach your preferred dipping consistency.
  • The dip thickens as it cools; gently warm if needed before serving.
  • Substitute corn syrup with maple syrup for a natural alternative.
  • Store leftover dipping chocolate in a covered container in the refrigerator and gently reheat before serving.
