These Smash Burger Tacos combine the juicy, crispy texture of classic smash burgers with the convenience and flavor of soft flour tortillas. Perfectly seasoned ground beef is cooked directly on the tortilla for a quick and delicious meal, topped with melted cheese, fresh lettuce, diced onions, and tangy dill pickles for a satisfying fusion taco experience.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Tacos

  • 4 flour tortillas (6 inches)
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (vegetable, canola, or avocado)
  • 4 slices American cheese (or preferred cheese)
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Dill pickle chips
  • Shredded iceberg lettuce

Instructions

  1. Divide the beef: Separate the ground beef into 4 equal portions to ensure each taco is evenly filled.
  2. Form and season: Spread each portion of beef thinly and evenly over one side of each tortilla. Season lightly with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Heat the skillet: Place a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat and add the neutral oil, heating until shimmering.
  4. Cook beef side down: Place the tortillas in the skillet with the seasoned beef side down. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until the beef is golden brown and crispy.
  5. Flip and add cheese: Carefully flip each tortilla so the tortilla is now in contact with the skillet. Quickly add a slice of cheese on the cooked beef side and cook for an additional 1-3 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  6. Repeat for all tacos: Remove each taco from the skillet once cheese has melted and repeat the cooking process with the remaining tortillas and beef portions.
  7. Assemble tacos: Top each taco with your preferred sauce, shredded iceberg lettuce, diced onions, and dill pickle chips. Serve immediately for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use a neutral oil with a high smoke point for best results, such as canola or avocado oil.
  • Ensure the skillet is hot before adding the beef to achieve a nice crust.
  • Feel free to customize toppings with your favorite burger condiments like ketchup, mustard, or mayo.
  • Cheese slices can be substituted with cheddar, pepper jack, or any melting cheese of your choice.
  • For a crispier tortilla, briefly toast the tortilla side after flipping.
