This Viral Chocolate Banana Bark is a deliciously simple frozen treat that combines the natural sweetness of semi-ripe bananas with creamy peanut butter and rich dark chocolate. Perfect as a healthy snack or dessert, it comes together easily without baking and offers a delightful balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 2 medium semi-ripe bananas

Spreads

  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons drippy, creamy peanut butter

Chocolate

  • 1.5 cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)

Seasoning

  • Flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking sheet: Line a medium-sized baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy removal of the banana bark later.
  2. Slice bananas: Peel and slice the semi-ripe bananas into 1/3-inch thick pieces, slightly angled for better fit and consistency. Make sure slices are as even as possible for uniform freezing.
  3. Arrange bananas: Place the banana slices in a rectangular shape on the lined baking sheet, ensuring they touch each other to help the bark hold together when frozen.
  4. Spread peanut butter: Evenly spread the drippy, creamy peanut butter over the banana slices, covering them completely. If the peanut butter is too thick to spread easily, warm it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds. After spreading, put the baking sheet into the freezer for 20 minutes to set the peanut butter layer.
  5. Melt chocolate: Heat the dark chocolate chips (with optional coconut oil for smoothness) in a microwave-safe dish using 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until mostly melted and smooth. Take care to not overheat or burn the chocolate.
  6. Coat with chocolate: Remove the peanut butter banana layer from the freezer. Pour and spread the melted chocolate evenly over the top. If desired, sprinkle with flaky sea salt or other toppings at this stage.
  7. Freeze to set: Return the bark to the freezer and chill for at least 90 minutes, up to 2 hours, until fully set and firm.
  8. Serve: Once set, remove from the freezer, flip the bark over, and peel off the parchment paper. Break into large pieces and enjoy immediately or keep frozen for a refreshing treat.

Notes

  • Use semi-ripe bananas for optimal sweetness and texture.
  • Drippy peanut butter works best for easy spreading; heat if necessary.
  • Adding coconut oil to chocolate chips helps achieve a smoother melt and shinier finish.
  • Flaky sea salt enhances flavor but is optional.
  • Store the chocolate banana bark in the freezer to prevent melting.
  • Can be customized with nuts, seeds, or dried fruit sprinkled on top before freezing.
